COMPANY
DESCRIPTION
Simcha Publishing Company is a medium sized publishing company
focusing on the Jewish markets in the United States, Canada,
England, Australia, South Africa, and Israel.
We have full time sales representatives
in the United States, Israel and England.
In the United States our reps work with
the Jewish book stores, the leading chains like Barnes
& Noble and Borders as well as the major wholesalers:
Ingram and Baker & Taylor. We work with most library
wholesalers as well as the Association of Jewish Libraries.
Besides our offices in the United States, Israel and England,
we have distribution in South Africa, Canada and Australia.
In Israel we sell to the major book chains:
Steimatzky's, Tsomet Hasefarim, and Yerid Hasefarim. We
service over 30 book stores that carry English language
titles, and work through organizations and book fair venues
to promote our titles. We have just embarked on an aggressive
program of translating some of our titles into Hebrew
in order to distribute them within the Israel Hebrew speaking
market.
Because of the time and effort necessary
to market a book, we won't usually take on a project that
we think will sell less than 1,000 copies of a book. It's
too expensive to develop the book and get it into the
market for us to handle any title that we don't think
can sell well. Our first print runs are typically between
1,000-3,000 depending on hard/soft cover mix and market
interest.
We handle all layout, design, editing, proofreading,
and printing of your title. Our covers are full color
and visually appealing. You receive your own, experienced
editor to work with, and we consult with you on every
aspect of your book.
Once your book is at the print stage, we
send advance copies of your title for review. After your
book is printed, we market your book through press releases,
press kits, reviews, buyer presentations, mailings, advertisements,
and our bi-annual catalogs.
We try to schedule speaking engagements
and interviews for you on radio and through the print
media. Our job is to make sure people know about your
book and have an opportunity to purchase it. Amazon.com,
Barnes & Noble.com as well as many other websites
(and our own websites) will feature your book. Our titles
are traditionally some of the best sellers at Jewish Book
Month (USA) in November of each year, and we work diligently
to have our authors speak at the Jewish Community Centers
across the U.S. We present our new titles during bi-annual
meetings with our reps. The key is constant publicity
over an extended time.
We've had some notable publishing successes,
and some failures, but most of our titles have sold at
least 1,000 copies within 18 months.
